MORE ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Your adventure will begin in Beijing, China’s beautiful capital city, where you will explore the Forbidden City and Tian'anmen Square and come away with a deeper appreciation for their design and cultural significance.

You will hike along the imposing 2,000-year-old Great Wall of China and learn the history behind this man-made wonder of the world. Constructed between the 5thcentury B.C. and the 16 century A.D., this architectual marvel prevails as one of the longest-running engineering projects in history.

You will sample famed authentic Chinese cuisine at China's premier Peking Duck restaurant and enjoy the awe-inspiring feats of China's leading acrobats during a memorable performance.

Among the bright lights of Shanghai, you will explore the inner workings of the engineering concepts behind one of the world's most technologically-advanced cities. You will examine new ideas about infrastructure management, as well as the construction and design of some of the city's most innovative architecture.

You will also examine concepts behind engineering a fuel-efficient car at one of China's top automotive factories and see the work being done in China's "new" engineering sciences, such as wireless communications and electronics.

In Yichang, you will explore the Three Gorges Dam construction site and team with civil engineers to see firsthand and up close the world’s largest hydroelectric project on China’s busy Yangtze River.

Never before has there been a project of such magnitude. Sixty-two thousand acres of farmland, 13 major cities and hundreds of villages will be flooded, and more than one million people will be forced to evacuate and relocate at the conclusion of the massive undertaking – and you will meet directly with the army of engineers who are making it a reality.

An optional three-day add-on will enable you to wrap up your Far East adventure with an incredible exploration of Hong Kong, the “pearl of the orient.”

You will experience the culture of Hong Kong through a Cantonese lunch aboard the famous Jumbo Boat, explore the Hong Kong Islands and Repulse Bay, the luxurious residential area with beaches, cafes and aquatic activities and experience one of Hong Kong's most popular attractions, the Aberdeen Fishing Village featuring hundreds of brightly decorated fishing trawlers and sampans that double as floating homes for the residents of this city-on-the-water. You will also visit towering Victoria Peak offering a spectacular 1,800 foot high overview of Hong Kong harbor and the surrounding islands, enjoy an evening cultural performance and experience a Bauhinia dinner cruise before your return home.
