Hello,
I never got an e-mail informing me of my group and our project; in fact it took forever for me to receive any information about the trip… Anyway, I have no idea what’s going on in regards to the project and I would love if someone in my group could let me know what’s going on and I will work extra hard on the project to make up for lost time.
Thank You,
Amber Yates Eldridge

Hi everyone with clothing queries,
I recently found the answer to all the clothing questions and thought I'd put it up, as I had been pretty confused about that too. I will stress though that I am travelling on the Engineering delegationt to China, so I'm not sure if its slightly different for scholars travelling on different delegations or to different countries. Both a Dress Code and timetable for when to wear different types of clothing have been released. The Dress Code defines what clothing should be worn when professional, business casual and casual clothes are to be worn, while the timetable tells you when to wear each type (professional, business casual or casual) on each day and also what time of the day (i.e. all day or the morning with one type and the afternoon with another).
The Dress Code can be found in the Enrolled Scholars area under the "General Travel and Logistics Information" heading. It should be able half way through the list of links under this heading. This links you to a pdf that tells you what to and what not to wear for each type of clothing. Its very specific and very helpful. I suggest checking it out as soon as possible to make sure that you have the types of clothing required.
The timetable for when to wear each type of clothing or "Delegation of (Engineering/Business/Diplomacy and International Relations/Medicine) Schedule is also located through the Enrolled Scholars area. However, you have to then access the ISLP Blog, which also has a link under the "General Travel and Logistics Information" heading. You then click on the "Explore China" (or I'm assuming whichever country you're travelling to) link in the right hand column on the ISLP Blog page. The Blog Post entitled "Day by Day" on the Blog Page will give you similar instructions. The Explore China Page then gives links to both the schedules for each delegation and a link to a page that gives information about the Faculty Advisors accompanying your delegation.
I hope that this helps you find the answers that you're looking for.
Have a great trip everyone and for all those travelling to China, I look forward to seeing you there in just over 3 weeks.
Jacinta Larney
Hi, my name is Camille Hardy and I will be going on the delegation of business. I was wondering what type of clothing I should bring. I also was wondering if we had to bring our laptops with us for the group project.

I'm attending the delegation on medicine in Australia and I still haven't heard any specifics about our project collaborative yet. When am I supposed to find out my project and my group?
Hi again,
I am attending the engineering delegation in China from 25th May to 4th June 2010. On our facebook discussion board, there has been a bit of confusion as to whether information on the type of clothing and other items that should be packed will be provided to us. After looking at the facebook photos and watching some youtube videos on previous islp delegations to China, there appears to be a mix between casual, semi-formal and formal clothing worn by the scholars, although we were wondering if there would be specific information provided on what to pack and when to wear certain types of clothing.
Also, I think I remember reading somewhere that in April we would be provided with a list of the other people that would be attending the same delegation as us. I noticed that someone was wishing to find out how many people would be on the same delegation as him on the facebook page, which made me think of it. If this information will be provided to us, when will this be available to us and what information will it provide? I was wondering if it for example may provide us with contact information for other scholars so that we can all communicate online before the delegation commences.
Sorry about all the questions. The more that we discuss things and meet more people attending on the facebook page, the more questions I seem to have.
Also, I encourage everyone attending to have a look at the ISLP facebook page, as we share information, organise travel (for non-US and group flight travellers), meet other people and just generally help each other out in preparation for the trip. I have met so many of the people attending the ISLP delegations this year and we've gotten to know each other entirely through this page. So if you're interested in meeting people before you go, definitely check it out.
I'm enrolled for the 2010 China delegation for diplomacy and international relations. I previously selected my preference for Human Rights. However, I have not received a confirmation email that was supposed to be sent yesterday, 3-30-2010. Everyone else that I have talked to going on the diplomacy did receive a confirmation email.
Have I been taken off the email list, or some other problem?
Your Project Collaborative Group is 'Supporting Human Rights in China'. You will receive an email with login information for your group so you can begin preparing and meet your group by the end of the week. Please contact the Office of Admissions directly if you do not receive an email. You can contact them by phone at (800) 778-0164 or by e-mail at admissions@scholarlaureate.org.
Hello.
I am travelling from Mauritius to China for the diplomacy and international relations programme.
My ticket has been booked and I will be arriving in Beijing on the 24th. It is impossible for me to arrive on the 25th as there is no such flight available.
I would like to know whether i can stay in the friendship hotel on the 24th, and if I have to arrange all this on my own, then whom should I contact.
Hi,
I'm attending the engineering delegation in China from May 25 to June 4 and will be travelling from Australia. I was just looking at the newly added Flight & Hotel Information pdf and noticed that the hotel for Beijing is listed as the "Jinqiao Apartment Hotel" instead of the Beijing Friendship Hotel that was previously listed. Since the engineering delegation page still lists the Beijing Friendship Hotel as the Beijing hotel we will be staying at, I was just hoping for clarification that the hotel listed in the Flight & Hotel Information is the hotel that we will be staying at.
Also, will all delegations be staying at the same hotel? I have been involved in organising a group flight of sorts from Australia, so that we can all travel together. However, in this group, we have scholars from all delegations. Thus, if we are now staying at different hotels, the delegations will have to travel separately, which will have a large effect on our airport to hotel travel plans. We had recently decided that we would catch the airport shuttle bus, as one of its stops is the Beijing Friendship Hotel. So I was hoping for definitive information that I can take back to the Australian travel group and our facebook group as a whole for hotel information to base our travel plans off. We have also been considering hiring a bus to take us to the hotel in Beijing (which may be easier if the hotel has changed), so any information you can give us that would help us to make our plans would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry about any confusion, here are a couple pieces of information for you. The hotel in Beijing for the engineering delegation is the Jinqiao Apartment Hotel. Each of the delegations will be staying at different hotels in Beijing. The hotels listed on the Flight & Hotel Information pdf are accurate. Hopefully this is of some assistance with your planning.
Hey rohanvenk1,
I'm travelling from Australia to China for the Engineering Delegation. Registration at the Bejing Friendship Hotel starts at 2pm on Tuesday 25th May. If you are interested in booking flights with other people going, there are a bunch of different boards on facebook for that. There is a board for us Aussies, which has about 20 Aussies from across all the delegations. Also, there is a board for those travelling from South Africa and there might be more as well. In addition to that, there are also facebook groups for most of the delegations where you can discuss flight plans with others attending the same delegation as you. So if you are interested in travelling with others attending the program, there are lots of different flight options.
Hope that helps,
Jacinta
My daughter will be going with the delegation on medicine to China. She will be going to China a week before the program starts. Do we obtain a visa ourselves and if not can get get her visa application to have her travel dates adjusted to accurately reflect her dates in China?
The International Scholar Laureate Program will coordinate acquiring visas for all enrolled scholars traveling on a U.S. passport to China. If you have questions about changing the time period of the visa, please contact Passport Visa Express at (888) 596-6028 or +1.703.351.0992.
Scholars who are traveling on a passport issued from a country other than the United States of America are responsible for obtaining any required visas and paying related charges.
Please contact our Office of Admissions by phone at (800) 778-0164 (within the U.S.) or +1.703.584.9532 (outside the U.S.). You can also contact us by e-mail at admissions@scholarlaureate.org.
I am attending the Delegation on Business this summer in th U.S. and am making my own flight arrangements. I am wondering if I have to fly into Dulles and out of JFK or if any airport is fine.
You are welcome to fly into any of the Washington, D.C. airports and out of any of the New York City airports. However, we will only be providing shuttle service at Washington Dulles International Airport for arrival and John F. Kennedy International Airport for departure. If you fly in or out of a different airport, you will be responsible for arranging your own transportation between the airport and the program site.
Hi I am a Singaporean majoring in Psychology in ECU, Australia but studying offshore in Singapore. I was also nominated through Golden Key to attend this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity programme. However, it seems to me that most who are participating are mostly from the US and Australia. Are there any who come from other parts of the world, particularly from Asia? Thanks.. I haven't enrolled in any delegations though I am interested in either Medicine in China delegation or the nursing delegation in Australia.
We have scholars from Singapore as well as other Asian countries currently enrolled in the program.
In addition to posting on this message board, I would encourage you to check our pages on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and LinkedIn if you are interested in connecting with other scholars.
I believe I was nominated for ISLP because I am a member of Golden Key. As I listened to the webinar and looked through the information that was on your site however, I found that my major was not listed. I am a psychology major, does that make me ineligible for any of your programs?
We have several scholars from South Africa attending our delegations in China. One great way to connect with other scholars is by using this message board. You can also connect with us and your fellow scholars through our pages on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
As the program gets closer, we provide you with a list of scholars who will be in your delegation. These lists should be available around April 1st, 2010.
I am hoping to attend the delegation on business in the USA and i am organising my own travel to USA from Australia. I have read through the FAQ's and saw that if we arrive at IAD airport between 12 and 4:30, you have organised for travel to American University, do we also get travel from Columbia to JFK airport and if so what time do we need to book our flights for or do we have to find our own way there?
Our shuttle to JFK will depart Columbia University at 8:00 a.m. on the final day of the program. It is recommended that you arrive to the airport 3 hours early for international flights, so I would suggest booking a flight after 12:00 p.m. If you need to catch a flight earlier in the morning, you can arrange your own transportation between Columbia University and JFK.
Just to clarify, when you say travel information must be submitted, what exactly do you mean by that? Myself and the other people on the "Anyone flying from Australia to China" discussion board on facebook have been rather confused by what travel information actually is. Also, thank you for your earlier responses. They have been very helpful in our planning of a group flight for ourselves from Australia.
I apologize for the confusion. We will have an online form that you will need to fill out.. On this form, you will submit your travel information--how you are traveling to and from the program. Some additional information will be requested on this form including your passport information. This form is not yet available, but will be in the near future.
I hope this helps clarify. Please let me know if I can help with anything else.
I received the very exciting news about my nomination to attend the International Scholar Laureate program yesterday. I am very interested in the delegation on business to the United States option. The letter may have been dated the 1st of December, however this letter was only delivered to me on the 14 January. It would be greatly appreciated if i can have a slight extension, past tomorrows due date, to confirm my attendance and enroll. Would that be possible?
Thanks,
Elinor
You can enroll after the deadline. We will accept applications as long as space is available. The program is filling quickly, so I would encourage you to enroll as soon as possible.
My son is interested in the medical trip to Australia. He is a US citizen with a US passport. Will he need a visa and, if so, do you know the cost for a visa? Thanks for your help. Judy
Visa requirements vary by country. Scholars travelling on a U.S. passport require an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA). ANZGS will be able to assist you with this when purchasng your airfare.
For scholars traveling on a non-U.S. passport, I would suggest contacting your local Australian consulate or your foreign ministry or state department for more information on what visa you may require. You can also visit: http://www.immi.gov.au/.
My name is Myriam, I am a senior year student at Northeastern University and I will be participating in the delegation of Business in China.
I would like to get to know other students participating in my delegation, where are they from, where will they be flying from, and if they will be participating in the optional extension in Hong Kong.
One great way to connect is by using this message board. You can also connect with us and your fellow scholars through our pages on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and LinkedIn. There are already some great conversations happening on these sites.
As the program gets closer, we provide you with a list of scholars who will be in your delegation. These lists should be available around April 1st, 2010.
We do not have any designated group flights from South Africa. I suggest contacting our travel agency, ANZGS, to see what the best flight options are for you.

Interested in attending the Summer 10 ISLP program to China. When I view the trip planned to the US it seems very fluffy and full of tourist destinations. Is there anyone out there who has done the China Delegation on Business trip before?
Interested in:
1. How many traveled with you from the US?
2. Was there a lot of "meat" to the trip, in terms of interaction with students and business leaders? Any Government contacts?
3. Who leads the group on their tour?
If you are interested in speaking with alumni of ISLP, you can contact our Office of Admissions, and we will be happy to provide you with contact information for alumni who would be happy to speak with you. You can contact our Office of Admissions by phone at (800) 778-0164 (within the U.S.) or +1.703.584.9532 (outside the U.S.). You can also contact us by e-mail at admissions@scholarlaureate.org.
In response to your specific questions:
1. Our Delegations are between 30-40 students on average. The group tends to be mostly U.S. students, but we do have students from around the world attend.
2. I would encourage you to look at the program schedule for a breakdown of what your time will be like at ISLP. You have the opportunity to explore the field of business in China by going on site visits as well as meeting and hearing from business professionals. You will have the opportunity to meet with business professors and students.
3. The groups are led by our faculty advisors who all have a college degree and experience working in a collegiate setting. Our faculty advisors are professionals in the field of the delegation they are leading. Additionally, we have local guides who help provide local insight and perspective.
I've just finished my second year of civil engineering in Australia and have enrolled for the 2010 Engineering Delegation to China. To answer Sarah's question, my university has let me juggle it. I am at CQUniversity and our first day of exams is Thursday 3rd June and we don't get back until the 4th, so I will miss the first two days of the exam period. However, my university has been pretty understanding, since it is an amazing learning opportunity that directly relates to my course. So for any Aussies who are wanting to go, I really suggest just talking to your university. Find out what assessment pieces you'll have and see what you'll need to juggle. From what I've heard, usually they're pretty good, as its not like you're taking time off to go on a tourist holiday or something.
Also, a couple of quick questions for the ISLP moderators, as I've been looking at booking flights and found some points of confusion.
1. I've heard that if you're not on the group flight (which only comes from the US) you have to make your own way from the airport to the first hotel. Is that the case?
2. What time approximately does the group flight arrive in Beijing? Just so myself and the other Aussies can try and get there about the same time.
3. If we do arrive before the check-in time of 2pm at the hotel, is it possible for the hotel to look after our bags until the check-in time? The dilemma is that one flight arrives at 7:20am and the other arrives at 2:55pm. My concern about the 2:55pm one is that by the time we get to the hotel (after customs and navigating our way through the city) it will be quite late and we will miss some of the first night's activities. However, the 7:20am one will get us to the hotel at least 2 or 3 hours before check-in.
4. We need to have a passport by March 1, don't we? As I think that remember reading that somewhere on the site, but I just can't remember where.
I think thats about it for now. For anyone interested, there's a board on the Facebook discussion board thats for Aussies flying to China for all delegations. There may not be a group flight from Australia, but it would be great if as many of us as possible got on the same flights even if we're from different delegations. Look forward to meeting you all in about 4 months.
Thank you for sharing the information about your university. I'm glad you were able to work it out so that you can join ISLP this year.
In response to your questions:
1. You are correct.
2. There are a couple different group flights. They are scheduled to arrive at 11:25 AM CST and 12:25 PM CST.
3. The hotel should be able to hold your bags if you arrive early. Either flight times would work. If you take the later flight, you won't miss any essential piece of the program, though you may miss some of dinner and the introduction activities.
4. The deadline for submitting your passport and travel information is March 1st. If you don't have a passport, I would encourage you to start that process as soon as possible.

Hi,
what am I supposed to put in the blank to get into the enrolled scholars page? It does not specify.

Hi again,
I am attending the engineering delegation in China from 25th May to 4th June 2010. On our facebook discussion board, there has been a bit of confusion as to whether information on the type of clothing and other items that should be packed will be provided to us. Thanks,
Terence
Thanks,
Elinor
Hi Elinor,
You can enroll after the deadline.
Hello,
My name is Myriam, I am a senior year student at Northeastern University and I will be participating in the delegation of Business in China.
I would like to get to know other students participating in my delegation, where are they from, where will they be flying from, and if they will be participating in the optional extension in Hong Kong.
Is there anyway I can do that?
Thanks,
Myriam
Great question, Myriam.
Hi. I'm going to the medical delegation in China and would like to know about group flights from South Africa, more specifically Cape Town.
We do not have any designated group flights from South Africa. I suggest contacting our travel agency, ANZGS, to see what the best flight options are for you.

That's really helpful info. In light of this I might jump on FB to see if we can catch the same flight. Cheers!
Sarah
Interested in attending the Summer 10 ISLP program to China. When I view the trip planned to the US it seems very fluffy and full of tourist destinations. Is there anyone out there who has done the China Delegation on Business trip before?
Interested in:
1. How many traveled with you from the US?
2. Was there a lot of "meat" to the trip, in terms of interaction with students and business leaders? Any Government contacts?
3. Who leads the group on their tour?
Thanks to anyone who can respond!
Hi Jacinta,
Thank you for sharing the information about your university.
We look forward to meeting you in May, Jacinta!
Hi, I was just wondering about the scholarship- if you are selected and you wish to defer to 2011, are you also able to defer the scholarship?
Thanks
If you are awarded a scholarship, it needs to be used for 2010. If you defer to 2011, you would have to apply for the scholarship again.
