ABOUT THE PROGRAM: CHINA

The International Scholar Laureate Program Delegation on Anthropology & Archaeology in China takes scholars to the sites of some of the foremost anthropological and archaeological discoveries of our time, and invites them to take part in the excavation and preservation of ancient treasures.

At the Han Tomb, scholars assist in an actual dig at the site. Side by side with Chinese experts, they explore the area where the emperor’s tomb and burial pit, sacrificial temple, weapons and other relics are being excavated.

Scholars also examine and discuss the Terra Cotta Warriors excavation with on-site archeologists. The striking life-size terra cotta statues of 8,000 armed warriors, horses, chariots and weapons continue to be unearthed near the tomb of China’s first emperor, Qin Shi Huang Di.

Scholars gain new understanding of the historical and cultural significance of the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven and other destinations, and enjoy stimulating presentations by leading archaeologists, sociologists and anthropologists from the China Academy of Social Sciences.

These are just a few of the opportunities awaiting scholars on this 12-day journey.
